The 2002 SeaTrade Award
Cold Cut System has been short listed in the "Categori I - Safety
at Sea - sponsored by Lloyd’s
Register"! The Cobra Cutting Extinguisher provides an extremely safe
and efficient method of fighting
fires inside confined spaces typical of those found on-board ships. It
uses a fine water-jet stream containing abrasives at pressures sufficiently
powerful to cut through a variety of types of walls and bulkheads.
Once access has been obtained into the space containing
the fire the equipment delivers a unique fine mist, which cools the environment
aiding in extinguishing the fire.
The unique Cobra features
The cutting takes place with no appreciable temperature rise, making it
a safer option for cutting in hazmat situation involving flammables, such
as these found in engine rooms and cargo holds:
- Once inside the jet expands cooling the heated atmosphere, which prevents
the ignition of hot gases and reduces the risk of flashover or back draft
thus making interior operations much safer for firemen.
- The risk to the firemen is also greatly reduced since the extinguishing
is achieved from outside the fire space.
- The equipment is compact and can be easily manhandled to the scene of
the fire.
- This major new innovation is achieved from a combination of existing
water cutting technology with high pressure fire extinguishing techniques.
